ALTEA HILLS AND THE COSTA BLANCA
From Villa Alemania the whole Costa Blanca is within easy reach, famous for its beaches and coves, its mild climate almost all year round and scenery that mixes sea, mountains and cliffs, between Alicante and Valencia.
In a few minutes you can reach the old town of Altea with its blue-domed church, Calpe and the Peñón de Ifach, or Benidorm and its lively seafront. A little further away are Moraira, the viewpoints of Jávea and the medieval village of Guadalest.
For a day trip, the Algar waterfalls (13 km) are a great choice, and Valencia, with the City of Arts and Sciences, is just over an hour’s drive.
THINGS TO DO
If you love the sea, you can go snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding, kayaking or sailing; Marina Greenwich and the Mascarat coves, a few minutes away, are ideal starting points.
Sports lovers will find golf courses such as Don Cayo (Altea) and Villaitana (Benidorm) nearby, as well as tennis and padel courts.
For walking or cycling, the Serra Gelada and the Sierra de Bernia offer routes with spectacular Mediterranean views. With children, the Terra Natura, Aqualandia, Mundomar and Terra Mítica parks are less than half an hour away.
FESTIVALS AND LOCAL CALENDAR
Altea celebrates its traditions all year round, with local festivals that fill the town with music and colour.
Winter and spring bring the Three Kings Parade, Carnival and Holy Week; in summer, the seafaring festivals of Sant Pere and Santa Anna.
Not to be missed: the Castell de l’Olla fireworks in July, the Patron Saint Festivals with Moors and Christians in September, and the Christmas market and New Year’s Eve in the Church Square.
